Case study · handmade jewellery · Ukraine

Before: 9 seconds. After: a 20-second Reel.

The svit.art workshop makes jewellery by hand. We were sent a short video of a necklace with strawberries and chocolate: 9 seconds from a phone, a song playing in the background. Pretty, but faceless: footage like this gets scrolled past without a second look. We shot nothing extra. From those 9 seconds we made a Reel with a hook, a story and a call to action that leads straight to the DMs.

Before and after

On the left, the video the maker sent us. On the right, the Reel we made from it (in Ukrainian, for her audience). Same necklace, same footage.

Before
  • 9 seconds, handheld, shot on a phone
  • A song in the background, not a word about the piece itself
  • What the necklace is made of and how to order it, the viewer has to guess
After
  • The first thing you see: «A dessert you wear around your neck»
  • 20 seconds from the same footage: slow motion, the wide shot comes back
  • A voice talks about the strawberries, the chocolate and the sliced strawberry, each sentence on its own shot
  • Subtitles for people watching with the sound off
  • One action at the end: DM the word «strawberry» (in the original, «полуниця»)

Why this Reel works

Raw footage sells nothing on its own. What sells is a Reel that gives a reason to keep watching from the first second, a story people want to watch to the end, and a clear next step for the viewer. We build every Reel, post and carousel from these three parts, so the content works for requests, not for show.

Here is how these three parts come together in a Reel made from 9 seconds.

01 · Hook

Jewellery you want to eat

CuriosityProvocationFOMOShock numberViewer's painParadoxQuestion to the viewerPromise of benefit
A dessert you wear around your neck · «This necklace makes you want to eat it, not wear it»

There are thousands of pieces of jewellery in the feed, and the words «a pretty necklace» stop no one. We collided two worlds: dessert and jewellery. That is a paradox. The brain catches on the mismatch and wants a closer look at what is going on.

The on-screen label and the voice say the same idea in different words, so the hook works both for people watching with the sound off and for those listening.

02 · Storytelling

From an image to desire in 20 seconds

  1. Image. a dessert you wear around your neck
  2. What it's made of. strawberries, pieces of chocolate and pink beads that look like ice cream
  3. Proof of craft. a sliced strawberry where you can see even the tiny seeds
  4. Value. every detail made by hand, in Ukraine
  5. Desire. «Want one for yourself?»
  6. Action. a code word in the DMs

Every maker writes «quality» and «made with love». A close-up of the sliced strawberry with its tiny seeds shows the level of work better than any adjective, so it sits at the centre of the story.

The question «Want one for yourself?» comes right before the call to action and moves the viewer from «pretty» to «I want it». Without that step, the call to action lands on someone who is still just admiring.

03 · Call to action

A code word instead of «DM us»

«Send the word strawberry in a DM»

A vague «message us» gets put off until later. Typing one specific word is easier than coming up with a message, so people do it right away, while the desire is still hot.

The maker sees who came from this exact Reel and knows which piece to offer. The word is spoken by the voice and shown on screen as a label, together with the profile name.

What we did

  1. Stretched 9 seconds to 20.We slowed the same footage down and filled in the in-between frames so the motion stays smooth. The wide shot is repeated at the start and before the ending.
  2. Wrote the script.Short and about what is on screen: strawberries, chocolate, beads like ice cream, the sliced strawberry with its seeds. Every sentence sits on its own shot.
  3. Added a voice-over.A female voice instead of someone else's song, with light music underneath.
  4. Opened with an image. For the first two seconds the screen reads «A dessert you wear around your neck», so people stop.
  5. Added subtitles and labels. When the voice talks about the cut strawberry, the subtitles move up so they don't cover the strawberry itself.
  6. Built an ending with a code word.«Send the word strawberry in a DM»: one simple action for the viewer, and the maker sees who came from this exact video.

What we needed from the maker

One 9-second video she already had. Nothing else.

It works the same for every piece: send a short phone video and a few words about it. Script, voice, labels and editing are on us.
