Case study · business psychologist and ICF coach · online

Before: a minute of talking to camera in one shot. After: a Reel that attention can't slip away from.

Iren is a business psychologist and coach who works with managers, team leads and experts. She recorded a one-minute video at home, talking to camera, and added a few lines: keep the «talking head», but mix in inserts by meaning so attention switches and doesn't drift. The words in the Reel are hers, we didn't cut a single one. Our job was to make people watch that minute to the end: give the viewer a reason to stop in the first second, and a new picture under her words every few seconds.

Before and after

On the left, the chat with Iren: her task and one phone video. On the right, the Reel we made from it (in Ukrainian, for her audience). Same voice, same words, nothing re-shot.

Hi 😉
I have a video for a reel: a talking head 😁
I'd keep it
But mix in more photo and video inserts: by meaning, so it switches attention and doesn't lose it
Like a girl covering her mouth (photo, video), or an always-good boy (20-30), or a tired manager who still pulls the project (as examples)
Otherwise subtitles, speed and so on as usual 😉11:08

Iren sent 1 video and 2 messages

  • One 59-second video: her in an armchair, a single shot from start to finish
  • It opens with «I'm sharing this because I'm starting...», the strongest thought only comes at second eight
  • Three different stories about people, and the same picture on screen the whole time
  • No subtitles: with the sound off, the way most people watch, nothing makes sense
After
  • In the first second, the plate «Want to say it, but stay silent?»
  • Her voice and words in full, no cuts, a slightly faster pace: 53 seconds
  • About half the Reel is inserts exactly under her words, a new picture every 3-4 seconds
  • She herself at the start, at the end and between the examples, each time in a different framing
  • Subtitles with the spoken word highlighted, music and a flash every time we cut back to her
  • Iren about the Reel: «Ha, great) all on point. Everything is great here»

Why this Reel works

Raw footage sells nothing on its own. What sells is a Reel that gives a reason to keep watching from the first second, a story people want to watch to the end, and a clear next step for the viewer. We build every Reel, post and carousel from these three parts, so the content works for requests, not for show.

Here is how these three parts come together in a Reel where every word is Iren's own.

01 · Hook

The strongest thought moved from second eight to second one

CuriosityProvocationFOMOShock numberViewer's painParadoxQuestion to the viewerPromise of benefit
Хочете сказати, але мовчите? · «Want to say it, but stay silent?»

Iren opened the video with an introduction: «I'm sharing this because I'm starting a new series». An honest start, but in the feed people decide in a second, and an introduction doesn't hold them. The sharpest line in the take came later: «we want to say it, but keep quiet, because it's not the done thing». We moved that thought to the first second and turned it into a question to the viewer.

The brain can't skip a question about itself: everyone remembers a conversation they avoided. That is the pain of her audience, managers and experts who stay silent in meetings. And «a new provocative series» in her own voice opens a second loop right away: what is this truth?

02 · Storytelling

Three portraits, and the viewer recognises themselves in one

  1. Hook. «Want to say it, but stay silent?» and the new series «My truth»
  2. What people keep quiet about. a girl with a finger on her lips on «we want to say it, but keep quiet»
  3. Portrait 1. a manager who doesn't want to spoil relations with the team
  4. Portrait 2. an employee who does absolutely everything and waits to be noticed
  5. Portrait 3. a strong person who allows themselves no mistakes
  6. How she knows. clients, friends and years in a corporation, an office on screen
  7. Action. «I invite you to follow, there will be plenty to discuss»

The three portraits are three parts of her audience: a manager, an employee and an expert. Whoever doesn't see themselves in the first sees themselves in the second, so nobody leaves halfway. We showed each portrait as a separate person in an insert exactly on the words where Iren talks about them: the picture confirms the sound instead of just decorating it.

Iren comes back between the portraits for 1.5-3 seconds, each time in a different framing, with a white flash on the cut. That is exactly what she asked for: attention switches but doesn't drift, because the narrator's face keeps returning. Right before the call to action she says how she knows all this, which answers «and who are you».

03 · Call to action

Not «book a session» but «follow»: a first step that is easy to take

Запрошую слідкувати · «I invite you to follow, there will be plenty to discuss and to share»

These are her words, and we kept them unchanged at the end. Someone seeing a psychologist for the first time won't buy 8 weeks of work straight away. Following a series is easy, though, and a series gives a reason to come back: every next episode warms the viewer up until they send a DM.

In the post caption we repeated the call and added the hashtag #мояправда («my truth»): it collects every episode of the series in one place, so a new viewer watches them one after another.

What we did

  1. Read the task and transcribed the take.A minute of text with three examples of people. For each example we planned the picture that should appear.
  2. Found the hook in her own words. The thought from second eight became a question to the viewer, placed in the first second as a big plate.
  3. Kept her voice whole. Not a single cut in the sound or the text. Picture and voice were sped up by 10%, as in her other Reels: 59 seconds became 53, and the voice still sounds natural.
  4. Picked inserts by meaning. Her examples served as a hint: a girl with a finger on her lips, a manager with the team, a young man at work, a tired female manager with papers, an office. We chose people who hadn't appeared in her earlier Reels.
  5. Laid out the attention. Her at the start, at the end and briefly between examples, each time in a different framing. Inserts last 3-4 seconds, cuts back to her get a flash and a whoosh.
  6. Made the subtitles.Large, with the spoken word highlighted, low in the frame so they don't cover faces. Every shot was checked so the text never lands on a face.
  7. Wrote the post caption.About the series, the three portraits, a call to follow and the hashtag #мояправда. Reel and caption reached her in the same chat the same day.

What we needed from the psychologist

One phone video of her talking to camera and a few lines about what she wanted. Nothing else.

It works with any expert who can talk but has no time for editing: record a thought in one take and send it to the bot. Hook, inserts, subtitles, music and caption are on us.
